What is PPC and how does it work?

Pay-Per-Click (PPC) is an online form of marketing which enables advertisers to display ads to people that are searching for terms related to their business, predominantly using Google Ads (AdWords) and Microsoft Ads (Bing Ads).

For example, if you sold digital cameras, you would be able to show in the Google search results whenever someone searched for ‘digital camera’, meaning you would be able to reach new audiences who may never of found your website otherwise.

Most of the time, PPC works on a cost-per-click (CPC) model where every time a user clicks on one our ad sending them to our website, it costs us a small amount. As an example, we may bid £0.18 on the keyword ‘digital camera’, so if we pay £0.18 for a click which results a sale of £280, we would make a great profit.

How do you measure PPC?

PPC can be measured in a number of different ways. Typically for Lead Generation, we track two key metrics to measure the success of our campaigns – contact form submissions and phone calls.

We monitor these through daily, weekly, bi-weekly and monthly checks and use our reporting system to accurate track how many we drive and whether they converted into business afterwards.

How do you improve the quality of your lead generation?

The quality of the leads is all down to the keywords we target. We ensure to only target highly relevant keywords to your business, in order to cut out any wasted ad spend on irrelevant searches. This results in more budget to spend on relevant keywords and a far higher conversion rate.

What is a keyword?

A word or a selection of words you wish to target and display your ads for in the search results. For example, you run a dog grooming business and you want to get new customers – so you target the keywords ‘dog groomers near me’ to search new potential customers who are searching for your services.

What is CPA?

Also referred to as cost-per-lead (CPL), cost-per-acquisition (CPA) this is the total amount of money the advertiser has spent in order to get a conversion. For example, if you spend £100 which resulted in 2 conversions, you would have a CPA £50.

Your CPA should be calculated based on what a ‘lead’ is worth to your business. In come cases, a CPA may need to be as low as £1 whereas in others it may be £100+ – it’s all dependant on your business.

What is Remarketing?

A method of re-engaging with previous visitors of your website with the goal of getting them back onto your website to complete a conversion or sale. Remarketing is a vital part of advertising, as users don’t always make a purchase on their first visit.

By Remarketing to users, keeping them aware of the brand and products they were interested in, we can draw them back to the site to finish their conversion.

CPA is important as as a business you need to be profitable. It’s imperative to calculate an accurate CPA which reflects the value a ‘lead’ would return for your business, as if it doesn’t, you run the risk of generating leads at an unprofitable rate and losing money in the process.
