Benefits of Plants in the Workplace

  • Share

There are many benefits of having plants in the working environment, studies have shown that adding foliage and plants to your work-space decreases stress and can increase productivity by 15%.

With other benefits to overall wellbeing and replenished focus, they can also be great talking points for the team. We recommend getting office plants that are interesting to you and people around you, this can help boost moral and overall mood within the office.

Not only are office plants great for your mood and productivity, they also have significant health benefits. They regulate humidity levels and can help to reduce sickness and absence rates; dehydration can contribute to discomfort, fatigue and poor concentration.

So, we now know that adding a few plants to your desk can help you feel happier and healthier, but which plants are right for you and your environment?

Our Favourite Indoor Plants

We are very much plant enthusiasts at This Digital, we currently have over 10 different varieties in our office and growing. We are so excited to add two large Bird of Paradise and one 9ft Palm to our new office in Chester, we’ve always loved Palm Plants and even squeezed one into our very first office.

It feels great to now have the space to accommodate larger indoor plants and would definitely recommend the elegant, tropical feel of the Palm variety.

The most commonly loved indoor plants are;

  • Corn Plants – Thrives of minimal attention and low light
  • Snake Plants – Copes with low watering
  • Peace Lily – Prefers shady spots perfect for indoor corners
  • Devil’s Ivy – Versatile and low maintenance
  • Fiddle-leaf Fig – Tough and resilient

Low Maintenance Plants

Some other indoor plants we’ve managed to keep alive and thriving (despite 2 office moves) are different types of Succulents and Cacti. Both of which store water in their leaves, stems and roots meaning they can survive quite a while without being watered, making them a great option for beginners.

If you are concerned about your ability to keep a plant alive, take a look at the 25 Hardest to Kill Plant list, which includes Aloe Vera, Chinese Evergreen and more.

Fake Plants

You can pick up good quality fake plants anywhere nowadays, if you can’t have real plants, fake plants are just as good to improve the look and feel of your space. They easily mimic real plants without the worry and aftercare.

We’ve just created our first faux plant wall in our entry way at This Digital HQ, we wanted to find other ways of adding greenery to the office space whilst also making an instant impact as soon as you walk in.
